Concrete Floor Milling & FlatTening

Conventional methods of concrete placement are not adequate when producing a floor surface that is truly flat or level. Modern day warehousing practices have become incredibly sophisticated and should not be hindered by an uneven floor. Such systems as wire-guided lift trucks, narrow isle and automated storage retrieval systems and high rack environments require a truly flat floor to keep operations moving seamlessly.

The operation of these specialized lift trucks on conventional surfaces can increase maintenance costs and create picking problems (including rack impact). Not to mention the fatiguing toll that an uneven floor imposes daily on lift truck operators.

Even with the use of laser-guided screeds and the most skilled concrete placement crews, and the nature of concrete placement, a slab is naturally going to have some peaks and dips. This results in what is referred to as a “wavy slab”. Compounding this wavy slab issue are sawcuts. Although essential, once sawcuts are introduced, a natural phenomenon called “Slab Curl” is likely to occur. Slab curl refers to the concrete slabs’ natural tendency to rise slightly near the cut — obviously this phenomenon also hinders slab flatness.

In the past, efforts such as toppings and self levelers have been used to attempt to flatten a slab. The problem with these solutions is that any topping that is applied — especially in an industrial setting — is unlikely to perform well over the long haul. These toppings often fail by cracking, breaking or de-bonding under heavy use.

At Venetian, we believe in keeping things simple. If a slab needs to be flatter, let us flatten it! We’ll work with what’s already there and create results that are permanent. No toppings, no levelers and no fillings unless specified. With the use of laser guided concrete milling machines, we cut just the right amount of material away from the floor to ensure flatness. These 2500 lb machines work dry (dustless) and can flatten floors to within 1mm tolerance (or less if required). The profile left behind the machine is the equivalent of a CSP 6 – 8, which in some circumstances may require either a coating or grind/polish/finish. You can count on us to do what’s needed.

• Lowering High Spots or large areas of concrete as necessary without excess vibrating which can jeopardize the integrity of the slab
• Removal of Coatings/adhesives and mortars
• Flattening Areas between fixed elevations in warehouses or commercial settings
• Application of Finishes such as epoxy/urethane or MMA flooring, or grinding, honing and/or polishing concrete
